School-Based Programs
Our work in schools is based on the Attune•ED curriculum, a multimedia mindfulness-based intervention that teaches key mental health concepts and skills in a trauma-informed manner.
The Research
Neuroscience research suggests that practicing mindfulness even 12 minutes a day twice a week over an 8-week period can:
- Enhance attentional control
- Increase emotional regulation
- Promote flexibility
- Can actually change the structure of the brain in areas associated with executive functioning
The APPROACH
At OMBI, we are dedicated to getting high-quality mindfulness programs and education into the community. We utilize Attune•ED, a school-based curricula for grades K-12 to help students learn mindfulness skills that set a foundation for mental and emotional health, academic learning and healthy interpersonal relationships.
The Goal
Ideally, used as a lifelong learning tool, these teachings can help all students gain understanding about themselves and their connection to each other and the broader world.
In addition to the student-focused curriculum, OMBI provides Teacher and Administrator Professional Development Training
Attune•ED Series One (5 Lessons)
Establishes a foundation of self-regulation skills to help children learn healthy ways to manage emotions.
Lesson 1. Relationship with the Observer-Self
Sets the foundation for mindful living, establishing a relationship with the part of ourselves that underlies thoughts, emotions, external factors.
Lesson 2. Relationship with Breath
Teaches that breath is a powerful tool to help regulate our physiology and focus our mind.
Lesson 3. Relationship with Emotions
Helps us learn skills necessary to sit with difficult emotions, responding rather than reacting.
Lesson 4. Relationship with Thoughts
Helps us learn we can observe our thoughts, gain perspective, and notice how they relate to our emotions.
Lesson 5. Relationship with Body
Explores ways to develop a healthy and compassionate relationship that includes listening to the bodies cues and treating it well.
Attune•ED Series Two (5 Lessons)
Introduces mindfulness practices related to interpersonal awareness.
Lesson 6. Basics of Interpersonal Neurobiology (We are all connected)
Teaches us, through both didactic information and experiential learning, how interconnected we all are.
Lesson 7. Empathy and Compassion
Helps us learn skills to understand the inner lives of others and how to take multiple perspectives using basics from interpersonal neurobiology.
Lesson 8. Mindful Communication
Explores mindful communication, incorporating our self-awareness skills to regulate before we communicate.
Lesson 9. Mindful Listenings
Using our self-awareness tools to notice when we listen with non- judgmental curiosity and when our thoughts and emotions inhibit our ability to hear others perspective.
Lesson 10. Interconnection with the Broader World
Explores how our actions affect each other and the broader world around us. Each of us has a powerful impact, and we spend time reflecting on how to use that power mindfully.
Physiology of Mindfulness
Attune•ED has developed cartoon animations that make it easy to teach the neuroscience of mindfulness. These short, animated videos also demonstrate a mindfulness skill associated with each lesson.
