DEI

Diversity, equity & inclusion

Our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is foundational to our organization and we are dedicated to creating an environment of diverse voices.*

At OMBI, we value ways of perceiving and acting in the world beyond white dominant culture. The impact of racism on mental health has greatly been ignored and mental and physical health care cannot be separated from social justice work.

We acknowledge that the mental health system has a history of perpetrating institutional betrayal by pathologizing and ignoring certain populations in research, especially, but not limited to women, LGBTQIA, BIPOC, and the alter-abled and by not acknowledging the socio-historical context of oppression. In doing so, it has systematically erased important cultural practices, voices and perspectives, and traumas.

Both within our organization and in our community, we work toward liberation and social justice in a collaborative model that honors individual and cultural strengths and builds relationships through on-going evaluation of whether people feel valued, healthy and heard. We believe that having time and resources to rest, connect, and care for self, family and community are key elements of physical and mental wellbeing.

*Our diversity and equity statement is a living document that we continue refining as we grow and learn.
